Independent systems company

The Good Code Company

An independent systems company.

We design, build, own, and operate our own systems.

We're architects of enterprise-grade systems, designed based on our own extensive data analysis.

We research and choose the problems to address, then design, build, and maintain the systems ourselves, remaining accountable for what we ship until acquisition.

Spec — Scope

What we do

We develop focused systems and operate them for the long term. A system here can be several pieces of software working together, and sometimes hardware as well. We may consult clients on those systems or license customized versions of what we have already built.

Spec — Exclusions

What we do not do

We are not a software development agency. We do not usually take on client projects, sell development capacity, or build custom systems to order. However, we remain open to consulting for complex requirements.

The work spans the full system.

Our work draws on six core technical disciplines. These are areas we build in, not a catalogue of client services.

  1. D-01 System software REF. SYS
  2. D-02 User applications REF. APP
  3. D-03 Middleware and APIs REF. MID
  4. D-04 Data and analytics REF. DAT
  5. D-05 Infrastructure and deployment REF. INF
  6. D-06 Web 4.0 contrivance engineering REF. W40

The sectors where we focus our work.

What we build is informed by work across seven business, technical, and institutional sectors.

  1. S-01 Finance & Controlling REF. FIN
  2. S-02 Procurement, Supply Chain & Operations REF. OPS
  3. S-03 Human Capital Management REF. HCM
  4. S-04 Data Science & Analytics REF. DSA
  5. S-05 Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning REF. AIML
  6. S-06 Process Automation REF. AUT
  7. S-07 Governance, Legal & Academia REF. GOV

We're currently working on Enoch.

Enoch is a tamper-evident event logging and documentation archiving system. Customer events and documents stay private in customer-controlled systems, while cryptographic hashes and trusted timestamps are anchored to the Hedera public network. The result is private data with public proof: records whose integrity anyone can verify without ever seeing their contents.

Enoch serves regulated professional firms that depend on the integrity of their records, including law firms, medical practices, and accountants. It is built for organizations that must prove what happened and when, to auditors, regulators, and courts.

N-01

Systems over projects

We invest in systems we can improve, support, and operate for the long term.

N-02

Scope before scale

Each system begins with a defined problem, a clear user, and a reason to exist.

N-03

Evidence over claims

Correctness, durable architecture, and predictable behaviour matter more than presentation or novelty.

Consulting stays tied to our own systems. We do not begin with an open-ended brief.

Based in Toronto. Distributed worldwide.

Team members work from locations around the world. The company remains one organization with direct responsibility for its systems.

Questions about the company.

What does The Good Code Company do?

We create our own systems and operate them for the long term.

Do you take on client work?

We are not a software development agency and do not usually take on client projects, sell development capacity, or build custom systems to order.

Do you consult or customize systems?

Sometimes. We may consult clients on our own systems or license customized versions of systems we have already built.

What is Web 4.0 Contrivance Engineering?

Web 4.0 is our name for the intelligent web: AI agents form the interface layer, and version control is the memory. Contrivance engineering is the method behind it, replacing an entire category of software with a smaller, cleverer mechanism that does the same job with less overhead. The content management system is the first casualty. We are a systems company, not a website development company: this is how we engineer systems, not a service we sell.
